CHAKANA 3
The four arms of the Chakana point to the four cardinal directions: north, south, east, and west. These directions are also linked to the four elements—earth, water, fire, and air—underlining the interconnectedness of nature and life.
The Central Axis:
The central circle or hole represents the axis mundi, or the spiritual center of the universe. This is where the three levels of existence intersect, symbolizing the unity and harmony between the physical and spiritual worlds.
In Inca tradition, the Chakana is more than just a symbol; it represents the guiding principles of life, spirituality, and cosmic order. It reflects the Inca understanding of time, space, and their relationship with nature. It was also used in ritual practices and as a template for the design of their cities and temples, often aligned with celestial movements.
To the Incas, the Chakana was a map of existence, a tool to navigate life’s journey, and a profound reminder of the interconnectedness of all things. Even today, it remains a revered symbol in Andean cultures, embodying a sense of unity, balance, and spiritual connection with the cosmos.
CHAKANA 3
